Tonight’s workshop was a great opportunity for me to come into the City of Calgary and really get my first impressions on the impact entrepreneur community. And one of the things I found is there is a critical mass here, there is pent up demand for people who want to change the world, to get together, to be in community, to share stories, to help each other, and to grow their business so they can actually change the world in the way that they want to. I was really encouraged by what I saw. A lot of industries, a lot of stages, a lot of people looking for support, great diversity. I think the future of the impact ecosystem in Calgary is a bright one.

What I loved most about tonight’s event was the ability to sit down with other entrepreneurs, other people, and talk not just about successes but also struggles that we’re all having. I just found it incredibly invaluable to verbalize what we’re all working on and to be able think of strategies that we could utilize going forward.

During February 12- 13 2018, I was granted the opportunity to attend a couple of high level workshops launched jointly by Bridge/Intonovus in their endeavour to foster a thriving social enterprise ecosystem here in Calgary and Alberta.
I very much appreciate the effort it must have taken to provide such a wide array of interesting people & initiatives with so much high caliber content around how to get their initiatives off the ground – how to foster tighter and more high density connections to allow for a faster deal flow of social enterprise initiatives – In short, learning to make opportunity meet needs. I am looking forward to see more of what can happen, when Intonovus & Bridge partner to build, fastrack and foster social entrepreneurship at my doorstep.

My big takeaway has been that I need to do a lot more thinking about what I want my concept, business model, to be. I’m still at the pre-launch phase; I learned that new term as well. I found it inspiring to be around a group of very supportive people that have the same values, and want to create social impact So, I’m looking forward to maybe attending some more of these types of sessions.

I attended “Creating our tomorrow – determining our future as Social Entrepreneurs” as part of Making Calgary a Social Enterprise City February 12 & 13, 2018” because I am very interested in social enterprises and the intersects of non-profits and for profits organizations. I found it inspiring to see so many people getting together around the desire to strengthen the current and future social enterprises in Calgary. There was a very good energy during the event and I met many kind, inspiring and passionate people. This event confirmed me the need to create a hub to gather the community active in social enterprise. I would recommend the Intonovus/Bridge partnership to people who need to be connected with other social entrepreneurs or people who need help to start, grow or maintain their social enterprise.
